What’s involved

Built for the mess that comes with it

Tools, machinery, oil and dust. A shed floor needs to handle all of it and still clean up.

Bare concrete in a shed turns into a dust bowl, soaks up every drop of oil and fuel, and never really looks clean no matter how often it gets swept. For a space you actually work in, that gets old quickly.

An epoxy flake floor seals the slab under a seamless, chemical and stain resistant surface. Spills sit on top where they can be wiped up, the concrete stops dusting, and a broom or mop is all it needs. A lighter flake also reflects more light than grey concrete, which helps in a shed with small windows.

Bigger, rougher slabs

Sheds are often bigger than a house garage, and the concrete is often older and rougher, with more cracks and sometimes years of oil in the surface. That all gets dealt with in prep: cleaning, diamond grinding and crack repair before a coat goes down.

What it can and can’t take

A flake system is tough, but it isn’t armour plate. Dragging sharp steel or dropping heavy gear can still mark it, and very heavy point loads like vehicle hoists or machinery stands are worth mentioning up front so the system suits what the floor has to carry.

The process

How a shed floor job runs

  1. Quote

Send photos, the rough size and what the shed is used for.

  2. Clear out

The floor needs to be completely empty for prep and coating.

  3. Grind & repair

Oil and old coatings are dealt with, the slab is diamond ground and cracks are repaired.

  4. Flake system

Epoxy base, a full broadcast of flake and clear coats over the top.

  5. Cure

Gear and vehicles go back in once the floor has fully cured.

Questions

Common questions

Straight answers. If yours isn’t here, ring Nathan on 0423 627 131.

Can you epoxy a shed floor that has oil stains?

Usually, yes. Surface staining is removed by diamond grinding during prep. Concrete that has soaked up oil for years can need extra work, so mention it and include photos when you ask for a quote.

Is epoxy strong enough for a workshop with machinery?

For most home sheds and workshops, yes. A properly laid flake system is built for heavy use. Very heavy equipment, hoists or steel stands are worth mentioning when you get a quote, so the system suits what the floor has to carry.

Do I need to empty the shed?

Yes. The whole floor has to be clear for grinding and coating, and it needs to stay clear until the floor has cured.

How much does it cost to epoxy a shed floor?

It depends on the size of the slab, its condition and how much prep it needs, so every shed floor is quoted individually, and quotes are free. Send through a few photos and rough measurements and we can come back with a price.
